CHEM 3343 Communications and Careers in Chemistry- Hanson
October 10, 2007
Good morning, afternoon, evening, what have you!
This is just a quick recap of what we discussed in your class today.
To access the Chemistry Subject Guides’ page, click here. This page will give you the recommended databases, reference works, etc. for chemistry.
Please remember though that you are not just limited to the Chemistry subject guides page. If you’re needing information about biochemistry, try using the Health and Medicine guides page.
The two main Chemistry databases we searched in today were:
ACS: American Chemical Society Chemistry and related topics. Full text articles from 35 American Chemical Society periodicals. Requires Acrobat Reader.
SciFinder (this was the fancy, dancy one that allowed the models, etc.) Available in library only. On a computer in Electronic Resources in the library, click on Start, then SciFinder. SciFinder Scholar offers access to Chemical Abstracts (1947-present), Registry (1957-present), and CASREACT (from 30 journals, 1985-present; from patents, 1991-present). Search more than 27 million chemical substances by chemical name, structure, CAS Registry Number, and formula. Information for over 3.7 million organic, organometallic, natural product and biocatalyzed reactions from the CASREACT database is included in SciFinder Scholar.
Please remember that sometimes the library will not own access to or a subscription to a journal. If so, you can always request an article via Interlibrary Loan. If you haven’t already, please sign up for Interlibrary Loan here.
I hope this helps and please do not hesitate to ask us for help with any of your research needs. Again, you can visit us on the first floor, call us (405-974-2878), email us, or even chat with us.
Have a great day!
